Biography

Born in 1993 in Bucharest, Romania in a family of musicians, Christian Sandrin started to play the piano at the age of 6 with Marina Dragomirescu. He graduated the “Dinu Lipatti” Music College having worked with Cristian Dumitrescu and his own father, professor Sandu Sandrin. He is currently studying with Diana Ketler in the first year of the BMus programme at the Royal Academy of Music, holding the ABRSM Scholarship and the Sainsbury Award.


Mr Sandrin is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions such as Carl Filtsch (Sibiu, 2007), Yurii Boukoff (Sofia, 2009), Tudor Dumitrecu (Bucharest, 2010), ProPiano (Bucharest, 2011), Automobile Club de France (2011) and Grand Prix Animato Competition (Paris, 2012). He was semi-finalist in the 2012 Jaques Samuel Intercollegiate Piano Competition winning a recital at Saint James Piccadilly. Apart from the international distictions, Christian Sandrin gained numerous awards and prizes in his native country such as First Prize at the National Music Olympiad (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), First Prize at Competition organised by the Hungarian Cultural Institute (2010) and Third Prize at the National “Dinu Lipatti” Competition.


Christian Sandrin performed with major Romanian orchestras such as Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, Symphonia Orchestra Bucharest, Bacau, Sibiu, Ramnicu-Valcea and Targu-Jiu Philarmonics, having collaborated with Ovidiu Balan, Florin Totan, Nicolae Racu and Mark Cikes. Mr Sandrin had recitals in major venues in Bucharest such as the Romanian Atheneum, the George Enescu Museum, the National Museum of Art, the ARCUB, the Romanian National Library, the Palace of the Parliament, the Embassy of France.


Member of the Animato foundation based in Paris, Christian Sandrin was invited to take part in the “Mardis d'Animato” concert series in 2011 at Salle Cortot. In 2010, Mr Sandrin had a recital organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in the “Manuel de Falla Hall” of the Real Conservatorio Superior de Madrid, Spain. The “Remember Enescu Cultural Foundation” has been organising many concerts in Bucharest and Sinaia in which Mr Sandrin took part. He also performed in the “International George Enescu Festival” in 2009 and 2011, concerts broadcasted by the Romanian National Television (TVR Cultural).


In 2010, 2011 and 2012 Christian Sandrin won consecutively a SoNoRo Scholarship providing him the opportunity to participate in chamber-music workshops organised in Paltinis, Cetate, Montepulciano and to play in chamber groups with internationally recognised artists such as Diana Ketler, Razvan Popovici, Bjork Lewis, Razvan Suma and Erich-Oskar Huetter. Mr Sandrin was invited to play in the “Interferente Concert” of SoNoRo International Chamber-Music Festival (2010 and 2011).


During the years, Christian Sandrin took part in numerous masterclasses working with important teachers such as Angela Hewitt, Pascal Devoyon, Yevgeny Sudbin, Kathryn Stott, Francoise Thinat, Natalia Troull, Naum Grubert, Jenny Zacharieva, Fulvio Turissini and Justin Oprean. Within the 7th International “San Daniele” Piano Meeting he was awarded the „Pianoforte e orchestra” Award for the best performance of a piano concerto.
