| BlogThere are hundreds of cultures in the world, each with their own unique wedding traditions. Whether or not you actually pertain to these heritages does not really matter.
Many people incorporate traditions that they spiritually believe in or just believe to be really cool and would like to have during their ceremony. Others try to investigate their ethnic roots to honor their heritage. Many common wedding themes include Greek, Spanish, Chinese and African wedding customs. Below we will discuss some of the most popular traditions of various cultures. African Weddings African weddings are very intertwined with fertility. The wedding party and particularly the bride, wears cowrie shells in her dress, hair and necklace. In South Africa, couples jump over a specially decorated broom after the ceremony takes place to symbolize their new life as a couple. Wine is also spread on the ground to liberate the African Gods. Chinese Wedding Traditions Chinese weddings normally have a lot of red in the bridal party such as in the bride’s hair or in her bouquet. Red symbolizes good luck and fortune. Generally, there are paper lanterns as centerpieces at the reception as well as personalized fortune cookies. Greek Wedding Customs The Greek bride will generally hold a small packet of sugar in her glove to prey for a sweet wedding while the bridesmaids pass out gift packets of almonds for good luck in the couple’s fertility. Irish Wedding Traditions At an Irish wedding, you may think it is St Patrick’s Day with all of the different Shamrock decorations. Since the shamrock is a sign of good fortune, many couples post this good luck symbol on their cake, the wedding decorations and even the gifts. You may also switch up the general champagne for a traditional Irish beer to toast over.
