Blog Helothere, just thought I'd put pen to paper or rather font to screen to basically say how I took and interst in classical music.
I rathere think it started in 1950's as a child I would listen to uncle mac or whatever it was called. A show on the light program on the BBC . The host would play music for children, and at times would play such things as 1812 oveture. It seemed to stick with me. Despite forays into rock n roll, 'the blues, and 'underground music' etc the one consitant music that I fell back on was yer actual classical werent it. Even in my prog rock years with good old Keith Emerson (the Nice) (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) who, I have to thank ignited my interest further.. i would rush out to but their latest album, read the sleeve notes and discover composers I never heard of. Then pop into my local public library and go looking for the pieces that Keith had 'adapted'. This used to happen quite a lot, in fact I found that Frank Zappa had 'borrowed' from others.. So , here I am in this godawful place I 'live' following the death of my family and with a cheap DVD player that plays DVD Audio (no its NOT a dead format) and also SACD (same!!!) all being played through my cheapo PC and 5.1 surround speakers. Of which I have to say adds a new dimension to the work. It's been some time since I've been to a live concert, in fact a live anything. I always fancied the idea of going to The Proms..never got round to it, with all the moving about Ive done..but, heigh ho one lives in hope.... |
