First cluster of smart bus shelters to open in Dubai

The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive of RTA has launched the first 25 smart air-conditioned bus shelters starting in Jumeirah with services such as free mobile charging and topping up mobile balance, WiFi connection, smart shopping, smart booths where customers can pay their utility and telecom bills., credit card bills, send remittances, as also booking air tickets. The remaining 75 bus stops are expected to be launched by end of 2016.

According to director General, the project is in line with the agency’s initiative to deliver and provide better customer experience and give people leisure while they use public transport. Furthermore, it also coincides with the program of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai a smart city and the cheeriest in the world through its 24-hour services.

The project covers 15 neighborhoods such as Dubai Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Wasl, Jumeirah, Deira, Umm Al Ramool, Al Quoz, Al Rashidiya, Al Qusais, Al Awir, Al Nahda, Al Satwa, Al Karama, Al Ras, Al Garhoud, and Al Jafiliya. The smart shelters have been selected from the existing 656 air conditioned bus stops located across the city according to several safety requirements and the volume of commuters.
